ParticipantHi,
I need to put captcha on the user registration form that comes up when someone clicks on the my account icon. Or maybe if that button would take them to the my account page would work as well. I’m getting spam regs and although I put up captcha on the my account page, it’s not working when they register through the icon.
Thanks

KeymasterHi nwcreative,
If the captcha is your choice, there is no need to put it in the form. Just use a invisible re-captcha plugin (there are many free plugins available for this).
However, my personal advice as someone who fights spam registrations on daily basis would be a bit different approach. You can’t really fight spam registrations by captcha only. The modern bots are too smart. 🙂
On this website (althemist.com) we are using a plugin called CleanTalk and it really makes wonders. It only costs $8/year and it is definitely worth the money. So far nothing beats it in my personal experience. Believe me we tried all possible options and all of them had some problems. Now we went from 2500-3000 spam registrations per week to 0. It also protects you from search spam (a huge problem) and other threats.
We are not related to that plugin’s team in any way and we don’t get any affiliate commissions – it’s just a genuine advice from someone that has been in your situation. 🙂
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
