Hi! I have been using the Zass theme since six months and for now I didn’t update the theme. I have recently installed Envato Market and Zass plugins. With these settings, I have the possibility to click on “update now” the theme in the WordPress admin dashboard: https://ibb.co/FB3rBCM

My first question would be: since I didn’t create a child theme in my WordPress site (I know it is not the best choice :)), could you confirm that I only need to make a backup of my functions.php and CSS customization settings before updating the theme using “Update now” option? I mean that all the other homepage, menu and theme options settings will be preserved after the update.

My second question would be: What is the difference between updating the plugin in WordPress dashboard and downloading the most recent files in Envato website?

My last question would be: if I am translating the main theme terms into French, would you be interested in including the .po and .mo files in your future theme updates for all your French clients?

    Thanks for your answers,

    Best regards,
    Nicolas

    Hello Nicolas,

Sorry for the late reply. We were on vacation out of the city for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

    1. Actually, you don’t need to backup anything, unless you made changes to theme files manually. All theme settings and content made in the theme options or the page builder would be preserved.

    2. No difference. It’s just easier for novice users to do it with a plugin instead of manually via FTP

    3. Sure, if you provide properly built language files, we’d be happy include them in the main theme package, so other users can also benefit from them. We have quite a lot of users located in France or speaking French language.

    Best regards,
    Dimitar

Hello Dimitar, thank you for your response and sorry for my late reply. The fact is I have some custom files in my “zass theme” folder: for instance custom woocommerce and wc marketplace email templates, custom lines in functions.php, translations, etc. What do you think about my best option: adding a child theme or not? Best regards, Nicolas

To be completely honest, it’s a huge mistake to make changes in the original theme files. That way they’d always be lost with every theme update. If you need to customize some parts of the code you’ll always have to use a child theme.
