    Hi guys,

First of all I’d like to say that the theme looks awesome. I love it right out of the box but as expected, certain clients want websites to do certain things that although we may not agree with they would like it to be the case.

I currently have the products listed on the website without images and in a list format. I have hidden the images using CSS but I wonder if it’s possible to display the products in the same style you have for the sortable menu? (See below:)

    Sortable Menu

My client wants their customers to be able to order straight from the list rather than click on the category and then go to the dish to order so the sortable menu is perfect for this. I also think it would be better to have this as standard for products rather than having a menu because you would have the menu and products whereas just the products would be enough. I don’t really see the point in having the menu and the products on the menu as separate.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated 😀

    Kind Regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

I am afraid that would not be possible as the menu and products are serving different purpose. The “Restaurant Menu” custom post type wasn’t meant to be used for online orders. It’s for restaurants which wants to just list their menu.

The only way to achieve similar functionality would be if you place the products in tabs (each category in different tab) using the WP Bakery built-in tabs content element.

    Best regards,
    Dimitar

    Hi Dimitar,

Thanks for getting back to me, very much appreciated.

I was actually thinking of doing that as a compromise, would this be okay with up to 200 products?

    Kindest Regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Frankly speaking – not really. Anyways, it wouldn’t be OK with a sortable list either.

In both cases all 200 products would need to be loaded on a single page and just change their visibility based on user interaction, which is always a bad approach.

It would be extremely heavy even with perfectly planned caching, especially on mobiles (such page would generate over 400 requests just for the products). A client should be very patient and extremely motivated to use exactly that website for his online orders. 🙂

We perfectly know the feeling of working with certain client’s requirements and expectations. We also know that trying to educate them is sometimes “mission impossible” and much harder than just doing what they want. At the end they’d be unhappy with the final result too and unfortunately they’d usually blame you instead of their own unrealistic expectations.

Anyways, if we can help with something else (even if it’s just ideas), we’ll be happy to assist you.

    Hi Dimitar,

Is there any way to disable the single product view?

For example, I have the products now as a list but I only want the quick view option to be enabled. That way, the user only has to order the product, make their selections and once it’s been added to the cart, they can then just navigate down to the next items in the list and repeat?

Also, is there any way to increase the size of the quick view button or change the icon on it?

    Kindest Regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

    1. No, I am afraid the single product page can’t be disabled. That’s not theme related, it’s how WooCommerce work.

    2. It certainly can be done with CSS, but that would require quite a lot of changes, as there are many other elements which would depend on the size of the icon
