ParticipantHi!
I had a friend test out my website and they said the pages were taking a while to load. When I click on the “Zass” theme preview it is much faster than my website.
Is there any way to speed mine up? I have already deactivated the plug-ins I’m not using and have wp-optimize.
Thanks

KeymasterHi alannawilkie11,
There are many factors affecting the site load speed.
The most important one is your hosting quality. You’d also need to optimize your website and it’s content. It can’t be done by just enabling a plugin. There is a lot more to be done (combining and minimizing resources, optimizing images, setting the right expiration headers etc.).
If you give us link to your site we can tell you what needs to be done.
We also do offer website optimization, but we can’t guarantee the final results if your hosting is not good.

KeymasterI have just tested your site. While there is a lot to be optimized, there is also some problem, but can’t tell exactly what it is. It takes a full minute to load for the first time, but after that it loads pretty normal (2-4 seconds). Probably there is something wrong with your caching, expiration headers etc.
Overall, bluehost is a good hosting. Not great, but still good enough, so it’s probably not related to the hosting settings.
Also, the size of your home page is over 5MB which is huge. You’d need to optimize your images, number of requests, expiration headers etc.

KeymasterYou can use plugins like WP Super Cache and Autoptimize for part of the optimizations. Also, you can adjust your image sizes, so they are not bigger than necessary. For the expiration headers, you’d need to do this manually in your htaccess file. These are the basics. There is a lot of information on the internet.
