ParticipantHow can one create a restaurant menu from the woocomerce products? Do we have to add all the products twice the one that we have on the menu and sell online?

KeymasterHello andy,
The “Restaurant Menu” is meant to be used when you don’t offer online ordering – just to list the menu. The menu items, can’t be directly ordered. Of course, you can link menu items, to existing products with the help of the custom button we made, but that’s not the original reason. If offering online ordering, of more than 4-5 products, I’d suggest using WooCommerce products instead of Restaurant menu.
Hope this helps.

ParticipantWe have defined the WooCommerce products already. That is fine.
Now we would like to create a “Restaurant Menu” to display the menu of the restaurant, but we would like to add the “WooCommerce products” to this menu.I we change a price in the WooCommerce, one should not update the Restaurant Menu as well.
As I see it the Restaurant Menu is just a list, so we’ll have to add the products twice. Am I right?

KeymasterYes, you are rignt. Basically both options are not connected in any way. “Restaurant menu” is a different post type. More like a “portfolio”. It was meant for websites that don’t need online orders and cart functionality – just static list of menu items.

ParticipantAny plans to write a sync or something similar to it? An import?
It is very time-consuming filling the 2 lists…. products and the menu, especially if they are almost identical it doesn’t make any sense.

KeymasterHello andy,
I am afraid no, as the two features serve totally different purpose. If you are aiming at selling online, why would you use the static menu? Most users would just list their products.
